Rivian is just a day away from unveiling the new R2 electric SUV. Despite the American electric automaker’s efforts to avoid crucial details from leaking, it still failed to prevent interested enthusiasts from gaining early insight into the new Rivian R2.
Rivian website’s source code reveals crucial info about the upcoming R2
Rivian fan Chris Hilbert (@Hilbe) shared key specifications and details of the R2 on the social media platform X, found in the source code of the company’s website.
Rivian has already removed the data, but a screenshot of the website’s source code has already circulated on the internet.
Range, acceleration, and other features
The new Rivian R2 will apparently deliver up to 330 miles of driving range between charges. In addition, it can accelerate from 60 miles per hour (mph) in just 3 seconds.
The leaked info revealed that the Rivian R2 will only offer five seats, a significant gap from the R1S’ seven seats.
Moreover, it will also feature external built-in accessory ports to fit a bike mount without utilizing any tools. It also has a front trunk, but the leaked information did not include the exact size.
Other key details of the R2 revealed in the source code include the following:
- Length 185.6 in
- Width 75 in
- Width with Mirrors 84.4 in
- Height 66.9 in
- Max Ground Clearance 9.8 in
- Wheelbase 15.6 in
- Wheel and Tire Diameter 32
- Approach Angle 25°
- Departure Angle 27°
Charging technology and pricing
What’s even more interesting about the leaked information is the integration of the NACS plug, eliminating the need to use adapters. Therefore, future R2 owners can conveniently access the Tesla Supercharger network without carrying the necessary adapter for the R1S and R1T models.
As you can see in the website’s source code, the Rivian R2 will have a base price of $47,000. It remains unclear if this price excludes the expected tax credit of up to $7,500 under the Inflation Reduction Act.
If not, the application of the tax credit will make the new Rivian e-SUV more affordable at just below $40,000.
Rivian plans to produce the new R2 e-SUV at its new production plant in Georgia. It will officially hit the market in 2026, with its debut one day from now.
It must be noted that the leaked details about the R2 electric SUV remain “unofficial.”
