Rivian offers up to $5K gas car trade-in deals for new R1 customers

Rivian commemorates Earth Day by offering substantial discounts on its R1 series through a trade-in program aimed at replacing gas vehicles with electric ones.

American electric automaker Rivian launched a new customer incentive called the “Electric Upgrade Offer” to honor this year’s Earth Day on Monday. The program offers up to $5,000 discounts for buyers of new R1 vehicles who trade in their internal combustion engine-powered vehicles.

“Today is Earth Day—a time to celebrate the planet we call home and think about ways to preserve it for generations to come. We want to help you get into a more environmentally friendly, zero-emissions Rivian vehicle.”

Rivian wrote in the email to prospective customers

Rivian has launched a new campaign called “Electric Upgrade”. With this new offer, eligible customers can trade in select gas powered vehicles and get up to $5,000 off a new @Rivian + 1 free year of charging at any Rivian Adventure Network site.

Rivian’s Electric Upgrade Offer

Rivian released a new enticing deal to stimulate demand for its R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup. According to its official website, eligible purchasers/lessees who accept delivery of a new R1 model before June 30 can benefit from up to a $5,000 discount.

In order to qualify for the incentive, customers must trade in their ICE-powered vehicles. Presented below are the available discounts for R1 buyers in the US and Canada:

R1S Large Pack$1,000$1,500 CAD  

The American electric vehicle startup also noted that any Rivian model or configuration excluded from the list cannot benefit from the Electric Upgrade Offer.

“Any Rivian vehicle model and pack combination not listed above is ineligible for this offer. Eligible Rivian vehicle configurations must be selected and purchased or leased through Rivian’s online Shop. $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your configuration through Shop. Discount will be applied as part of your Rivian R1 vehicle transaction.”

Eligible cars for trade-in

Rivian outlined the trade-in vehicle models qualified for the Electric Upgrade Offer. Refer to the table below:

1-year free charging to Rivian Adventure Network

Apart from the up to $5,000 discount for eligible R1 EV buyers, Rivian also announced a year of free access to its Rivian Adventure Network in the US.

The offer will start on May 1, 2024, or when customers take delivery of their new Rivian R1 model, whichever is later.

“To obtain the charging benefit, you must have, and maintain at all times during the charging benefit term, a valid payment method on file in your Rivian Account.”

Rivian’s Electric Upgrade Offer is indeed a remarkable move as it not only reduces the number of ICE-powered cars in North America but also stimulates demand for its own offerings. Interested customers must accept delivery of eligible R1 models from April 22, 2024, until June 30, 2024.
