American automaker Rivian will install the hypercar-focused suspension system in its R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup, as reported by Teslarati.
Tenneco’s role in Rivian’s advancement
The automaker’s suspension provider, Tenneco, will supply Rivian with its new suspension system.
That said, Tenneco’s CVSA2/Kinetic® H2 semi-active suspension tech will now be used in the R1T and R1S.
Rivian also purchased the central valve body block for the R1T from Tenneco. The R1T also has variable-orifice shock valves created by Öhlins Racing, which Tenneco acquired in 2019.
Tenneco claimed that Rivian and other automakers collaborated closely in developing their CVSA2/Kinetic® H2 suspension technology.
Purpose of the CVSA2/Kinetic® H2 technology
The suspension system aims to improve ride performance for battery-electric and hybrid vehicles, as per the VP and General Manager of Tenneco’s Advanced Suspension Technologies, Henrik Johansson. It will be possible with sophisticated hydraulic roll control and continuously controlled damping.
Furthermore, the following advancements are achieved by not employing standard sway bars:
- Better traction and road contact are provided through weight reductions and decoupled single-wheel disruptions
- Providing improved damping and roll control systems compared to other solutions.
Notably, the Kinetic® roll control technology enables exceptional off-road performance. Apart from that, it enhances handling agility and comfort.
Tenneco Clevite Elastomers will also be used for top mounts, front and rear suspension bearings, and other components in the Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles.
Remarkably, these extra components significantly minimize noise and vibration, offering a more comfortable cabin and a better ride.
