French automaker Peugeot confirmed plans to debut five new electric vehicles by 2025 under its E-Lion Project. Last year, it already revealed the two new BEVs it plans to add to its portfolio, the E-308, and E-308 SW.
Now, Peugeot confirmed the launch of the other three, namely, E-408, E-3008, and E-5008. However, the automaker has yet to announce the key specs of these new models.
All these five new electric models, alongside new mild-hybrid engines, will reach the European market in the following two years.
E-308 and E-308 SW
Peugeot will install a new front-mounted, 156-horsepower powertrain in the two E-308 models. They will have a 54-kWh battery pack with a 51-kWh useable capacity.
Remarkably, these new BEVs may travel up to 400 kilometers (250 miles) WLTP on a single charge. However, they can only charge at a maximum speed of 100 kW. Nonetheless, that capacity still corresponds to a 20% to 80% charge level in 25 minutes.
Furthermore, their estimated average energy usage is 12.7kWh/100km.
E-408, E-3008 and E-5008
As for these three models, their key specs have yet to be revealed. However, it is worth noting that Peugeot has previously launched the 408 as a mild hybrid car.
Meanwhile, Peugeot will unveil the new E-3008 in H2 2023. The report suggests that it will boast a range of 700km. The automaker will also offer three powertrain options, including dual-motor all-wheel-drive. Furthermore, it is the first Peugeot model to use the STLA Medium platform. Stellantis, its parent company, announced that the platform would have electric motors between 125kW and 330kW of power.
The E-5008 will shortly follow the E-3008’s launch. It is apparently a larger and longer variant of the 3008 with a third seating row.
In retrospect, Peugeot has already previewed its new-gen EVs, inspired by the Inception concept in January last year.
E-Lion project
Peugeot’s E-Lion project aims to achieve the following three targets:
- 2023: Its lineup will only launch electric models
- 2025: It will have 100% electric vehicle offerings
- 2030: 100% of its European sales will be 100% electric
Oddly, Peugeot claims that all these new electric cars were “born EVs.” However, three of the five are already offered with internal combustion engines.
Nonetheless, there are already efforts to update the existing generation of combustion-engine vehicles. Throughout the entire lineup, this year will see the introduction of its new 48-volt mild hybrid engines.
“E -LION PROJECT will define PEUGEOT’s strategy as an EV brand and ensure we stay connected to the pulse of society to deliver mobility that lives up to our brand values.”
