Optima Batteries has revealed two custom Rivian builds at the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Both are modified mainly for overlanding and come with trailers capable of remotely recharging the vehicles, according to InsideEVs.
Although the Rivian R1T and R1S have significant range figures, Optima acknowledged that electric vehicles might be considered restrictive to overlanding enthusiasts.
Particularly charging infrastructure’s availability when camping remotely is a concern. Hence, the company developed its power stations with 110kW lithium-ion energy from Volta Technologies.
Optima Power Stations features
The Optima Power Stations are set up on Turtleback trailers and could recharge each Rivian from 0-80% at Level 2 speeds. Both trailers utilize Merlin deployable solar awnings as power sources.
Furthermore, each Power Station consists of 110-volt, 220-volt alternating current (AC), and 12-volt direct current (DC) outlets used to power and recharge other electronic products.
Kitchen Turtle & Utility Turtle trailer specs
One of the trailers, the Kitchen Turtle, also features an electric stove, sink, and 45-gallon water tank.
Meanwhile, the Utility Turtle trailer has storage space for two motorcycles and many camping gears.
On the other hand, Optima also heavily modified its R1S and R1T builds to secure adaptable use in the wild.
Optima collaborates with DCE
In addition, collaborating with aftermarket specialists DCE, Optima put on custom Camp King and iKamper tents, an 84,400-lumenBaja Designs light package, and a 20″ Alston BR005 Forged Black Rhino alloys to each Rivian.
Other vital additions comprise all-terrain BFGoodrich tires and Orangetop Hypercore Lithium QUAD 30 batteries, with two sets on each truck.
The company aims to take its Rivian builds to several off-road events in 2023, including the Baja 1000 and King of the Hammers.
