Nissan, a Japanese automaker, is offering its Ariya at a reduced price in China.
It reduced the price by 60,000 yuan (about 8,200 euros), stating that this was a one-time offer. Nissan is not the only EV manufacturer to lower costs to increase demand in China.
The Ariya is Nissan’s most expensive electric vehicle in China, and it comes in four distinct configurations. The price reduction applies to each and every model that is sold there.
Nissan follows cutting vehicle prices
According to a report from last week, Toyota decreased the starting price of its electric SUV, the bZ4X, by more than $4,000 in China in an effort to increase sales.
Now, Nissan has followed in the same footsteps by announcing a significant price cut for its electric SUV model, the Ariya.
The Ariya, Nissan’s flagship EV model in China, is currently discounted by up to 60,000 RMB ($8,750) for all four models available in China – two single-motor trims and two dual-motor trims.
According to CnEVPost, the Dongfeng Nissan joint venture’s homepage now shows a starting price of 224,800 RMB ($32,770) for the Nissan Ariya.
The website shows that the massive discount is only available for a limited time, from February 17 to March 31. This is likely a test for Nissan to see how the significant price cuts affect sales.
This comes as a result of Tesla lowering the prices of its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China for the second time in less than a year, first in October 2022 and then in January 2023.
In the case of the Model 3, the cost of the electric vehicle (EV) is currently lower than it was in January 2021, when it first went on sale. And for Tesla, bringing down prices has been the primary driver of increased sales.
XPeng and Toyota followed price cuts
After clearing out its inventory in January and pausing production at its plant in Shanghai, the automaker has resumed production there and is doing so at a faster rate to keep up with the rising demand.
Xpeng and Toyota, both car manufacturers, came next.
The former company decreased prices on nearly all of the existing models in China. For instance, the price of the P7 sedan has there reduced by up to 36,000 yuan, equivalent to 4,910 euros, or 12.5%.
In addition, only four months after the initial sales launch, Toyota in China significantly decreased the price of its electric SUV model, the bZ4X.
Prices were reduced by 30,000 yuan, equivalent to 4,105 euros, bringing the beginning price down from 199,800 to 169,800 yuan.
