Nio plans to release its advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), called “Navigate on Pilot Plus” or “NOP+”, to almost 230,000 EVs starting on April 30, CnEVPost reported.
Nio plans to release NOP+ to a wider pool of owners
Chief Executive William Li announced at an event today that Nio plans to roll out the NOP+ to a total of 228,935 electric vehicles in 8 days amid the intensifying race in smart-driving technology.
According to the report, Nio start launching the NOP+ system in all EVs riding on the NT 2.0 platform in urban areas by the end of the month. It will apparently be the biggest user base for city smart driving in the world’s largest auto market.
All this considered, Nio has delivered a total of 228,935 NT 2.0 platform-based electric vehicles as of the end of March 2024.
NOP+’s expansion progress
NOP+ serves as Nio’s driver assist system built on its new NT 2.0 platform. It is a more advanced version of the company’s ADAS “NOP,” which supports pilot-assisted driving on highways.
As of today, Nio has expanded the NOP+’s availability in 726 (or 99%) of China’s cities. CEO Li further noted that the company has tested the software on approximately 1.21 million km of roads.
Of that total, urban road testing accounted for 850,000 km. Meanwhile, testing on highways and urban expressways contributed to the remaining 360,000 km.
Nio’s 2025 goal for the NOP+
Nio aims to have its innovative ADAS feature account for at least 80% of all driving time of its fleet of NOP+-supported models by 2025.
“At that 80 percent, using NOP+ becomes a user habit, showing us that the feature is truly useful.”
Nio CEO William Li
In addition, the Chinese electric vehicle startup also aims to develop smart driving tenfold safer than human drivers by 2025. According to the Nio boss, its ADAS is currently 6.26 times safer than human driving.
Nio’s NOP+ expansion is a crucial part of its efforts to diminish driving accidents on China’s roads and make traveling more convenient for users. Most Nio owners do not need to pay for the NOP+ feature yet as new owners in 2023 have gained at least a year of free access.
