Chinese automaker NIO sales grew 174% year-over-year (YoY) in October 2022, while its year-to-date sales increased by 32%. On the other hand, another local automaker XPeng saw a drop in sales, as per CleanTechnica.
NIO’s deliveries
NIO had a total delivery of 10,059 in October 2022, and it had a total of 92,493 year-to-date.
Meanwhile, a few models that saw sales in October were the ES7 (2,814), ET7 (3,050), and ET5 (1,030). Notably, the total number of cars delivered by NIO increased to 259,563.
XPeng’s deliveries
On the other hand, XPeng delivered 5,101 vehicles in October 2022, a significant decline from the 10,138 deliveries made in the same period last year.
However, it must also be noted that Xpeng’s sales have grown by 56% since last year. In the first ten months of 2022, XPeng delivered 103,654 units as opposed to 66,542 during the same period in 2021.
Sales of the P7 sports sedan, P5 family sedan, and G3i compact SUV totaled 2,104, 1,665, and 709, respectively, in October.
A company spokesperson explained why October sales dramatically decreased via CleanTechnica:
“I think G9 production and delivery ramp up needs time — and will see impact in the next couple of months.”
He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng, also expressed the same insight in an official statement:
“We are accelerating customer deliveries of G9. Logistics and transportation capabilities are all in place for a steady production ramp-up beginning in November. We expect that P7 and G9, both built on the Edward platform, will comprise a larger proportion of total deliveries in the coming months.
“Fulfilling customers’ needs by delivering an unmatched user experience through technology innovations remains our key priority. I’ve recently optimized our organizational structures and am confident that we are better aligned with customer demands and market trends with our differentiated Smart EV products.”
To be fair, we must consider that new models from XPeng have recently arrived, which might have slightly diminished demand for present models. Although City NGP has received positive feedback, it is only now offered in Guangzhou.
Interestingly, XPeng’s sales decreased to 5,101, while NIO’s increased to 10,059 in October. However, it is noteworthy that XPeng maintains its overall advantage in 2022 with 103,654 deliveries versus 92,493 deliveries.
Only time will tell what will happen in the competition by the end of the year.
