Chinese electric automaker Nio recorded a notable electric vehicle delivery increase of more than 12.6% year-on-year to 15,959 units in November 2023, according to the press release. However, this figure still poses an alarming implication for the brand’s global sales, as its monthly performance has been wavering by approximately 16,000 units in the past three months.
Nio’s November sales are alarmingly lower compared to its peak months from July to August, which were around 20,000 units.
The sales decline is unforeseen, given that the brand has just revamped its entire electric vehicle portfolio. According to InsideEVs, the new ES6 sold a record 11,000 units in July alone. Without further ado, here are the brand’s global monthly and year-to-date sales in November 2023:
Monthly (November 2023)
Electric Vehicle | Models | Sales and YoY Change |
Crossover/SUVs | EC6, ES6, EC7, ES7, ES8 | 10,545 (up 32%) |
Sedans | ET5, ET5 Touring, ET7 | 5,414 (down 12%) |
Total | – | 15,959 (up 13%) |
YTD (Jan – Nov 2023)
Electric Vehicle | Models | Sales and YoY Change |
Crossover/SUVs | EC6, ES6, EC7, ES7, ES8 | 80,138 (down 1%) |
Sedans | ET5, ET5 Touring, ET7 | 61,888 (up 139%) |
Total | – | 142,026 (up 33%) |
In hindsight, Nio’s global sales surpassed 122,000 electric vehicles in FY 2022. The Chinese brand further aims to increase this figure by twofold in 2023. However, it would be challenging for the automaker to hit this target with just one month left before the year ends. Notably, Nio’s cumulative sales hit 431,582 electric vehicles.
Nio’s lineup
Nio currently offers eight NT2.0 platform-based electric vehicles in its portfolio, including five crossovers/SUVs and three sedans.
Electric Vehicle | Models |
Crossover/SUV | new EC6, new ES6, EC7, ES7, new ES8 |
Sedans | ET5, ET5 Touring (ET5T), ET7 |
Despite the recent sales decline in Nio’s global EV sales, the company still strives to advance in the electric vehicle industry with its model upgrades and battery swapping network expansion. Nio recently secured partnerships with Changan and Geely to expand and strengthen its battery-swapping technology further. As of last month, Nio’s battery swapping has already reached 2,217 stations in China and Europe.
