NIO added three new battery swap stations in China, putting the total to 1,200, according to data released by the company.
NIO previously announced its goal to have more than 1,300 battery swap stations, about 10,000 destination charging piles and more than 6,000 supercharging piles in China by the end of the year, as per CnEVPost.
4,000 battery swap stations worldwide by 2025
By the end of 2025, the automaker will have more than 4,000 battery swap stations globally, with 1,000 in overseas markets, according to its previously announced aim.
On November 3, 2021, the Chinese manufacturer achieved 600 battery swap stations in the country. The recent figure indicates that the company added 600 new stations in the previous year.
To this day, NIO provides 14 million battery swap services, averaging more than 30,000/day, according to an article the company published on the NIO App.
According to the company, as of November 6, 2022, 66.23% of NIO owners have at least one battery swap station within 3 km of their homes. It aims to have that to 90% by 2025.
Notably, 324 out of 1,200 battery swap stations are located along highways.
Furthermore, the company also offers flexible battery upgrades to owners. To date, there’s a total of 23,000 owners who used the service.
In addition, the carmaker has 1,101 supercharging stations with 5,747 supercharging piles and 984 destination charging stations with 6,068 destination piles in China. The manufacturer’s charging map has access to about 590,000 third-party charging piles.
NIO Houses
According to PingWest, the company expects 20 battery swap stations in Europe and 120 by the end of 2023. The company opened NIO houses in Berlin, Germany and Oslo, Norway. There are eight more houses in Europe on the way.
“Cross-tier battery exchange” pilot service
NIO also announced a pilot “cross-tier battery exchange” service, where standard-range battery pack users could replace them with long-range packs at a daily rate and to be paid after use.
Long-range battery pack users can also shift to standard-range battery packs and be compensated with daily credits.
The pilot program is being tested in Chongqing, Guangdong, Hangzhou, Huzhou, and Shandong. It is expected to expand nationwide by the end of the year.
