As part of the deal, the two energy units will allow dynamic data sharing between their respective charging platforms. Thus, they can facilitate the two-way interoperability of electric vehicle charging networks.

As mentioned, the charging network sharing agreement is the inaugural endeavor under the strategic cooperation NIO and GAC Group forged on May 8. This wider charging and battery swap partnership primarily aims to unify industry-wide battery standards and management systems.

They seek to offer customers wide coverage, efficient, and user-friendly charging services to further accelerate the shift to clean mobility.

Expanding access to charging stations

GAC Aion, Hyper, and GAC Trumpchi users will officially gain access to NIO’s enormous electric vehicle charging piles via their mobile apps, mini-programs, and in-car charging maps by June 7, 2024.

At the same time, NIO EV owners can also use GAC Energy’s supercharging stations through the same platforms. whenever they want

NIO and GAC users can benefit from enticing discounts of up to 30% when using the other party’s chargers from today through June 30.

NIO and GAC will closely work together on key areas related to EV charging and battery swapping, such as follows:

  • Battery standards
  • Vehicle R&D and customization
  • Battery asset management and operation
  • Power-swap network development and operation

Moreover, they will also support the mutual launch of their respective charging platforms.

That said, the new charging network sharing agreement marks a huge advancement in China’s EV industry. It enables users of both parties to enjoy a wider charging network through their existing apps and in-car systems. It could pave the way for more convenient and standardized EV charging, potentially accelerating the shift to clean mobility.
