Chinese electric automaker Nio has just completed its 30 millionth battery swapping service on Monday, CnEVPost reported. That said, the company provides 60,000 battery swapping sessions on average per day.
Remarkably, this significant milestone occurred after crossing the 20 million mark.
Nio’s battery swapping milestones
In retrospect, Nio’s inaugural battery swapping station occurred in Shenzhen in May 2018. Since then, it continued to attract more customers to adopt the innovative way of battery replenishment.
According to the local publication, Nio only took 29 months to achieve its first 1 million battery swapping services.
More impressively, it managed to record its nine millionth milestone in just 20 months from the first million mark.
It reached the ten millionth milestone on July 4, 2022, just one month after the nine millionth record.
It continues to increase to 20 million on April 3, 2023, after just nine months from the 10 million mark. Finally, it crossed the 30 millionth milestone on October 9, 2023.
What is battery swapping?
Battery swapping is the process of replacing an empty battery pack with a fully charged one to accelerate the replenishment process.
This technology enables electric vehicle owners to quickly regain driving range, eliminating the need to charge their batteries for hours.
Nio’s power business VP stated on the Chinese media platform Weibo on October 7 that battery swapping is the superior EV battery replenishment solution on long-distance trips as it enables time-saving than undergoing the traditional charging process.
