Production milestones
NIO celebrated its first hundred thousand-electric vehicle production in April 2021.
Its 200,000th production milestone followed on April 26, 2022. In just about eight months , or on December 12, it successfully cranked out the 300,000th mass-produced EV model.
In November 2023, the Chinese electric automaker delivered its 400,000th EV. Now, it is celebrating the 500,000th production milestone.
Foray in the EV and battery swap industry
William Li founded NIO in November 2014. Since then, it has continuously developed “full-fledged capabilities for vehicle R&D, design, manufacturing, sales and services.”
As NIO expands its passenger electric vehicle production and sales to new markets, it also remains committed to growing its innovative battery swap network. It has recently partnered with major Chinese players to establish a unified battery standard to streamline the charging and swapping experience for Chinese customers.
“The 500,000th vehicle is a new starting point. Going forward, NIO will continue its unwavering investment into R&D and the charging and swapping network. Through innovative technologies, extraordinary products, beyond-expectation experiences, NIO, as a pioneer in the premium smart EV market, will be recognized by more people.”
William Li, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive
NIO proudly shared that it has ranked first in China’s premium all-electric vehicle market at the RMB 300,000 ($41,550) price point since 2019.
This production milestone is indeed a significant advancement for NIO. In hindsight, it was not originally eligible to build its own vehicles. It had to partner with JAC to produce its offerings in the Chinese NEV market. Now, it operates two production plants in Hefei.
