Euro NCAP, the European voluntary car safety performance assessment program, has released the results of its most recent round of safety testing. Apparently, only one out of 16 vehicles failed to earn the maximum five stars.

As per the organization, the program demonstrates the “determination of manufacturers to do well” in the safety tests. Euro NCAP’s secretary general Michiel van Ratingen stated:

“Manufacturers are keen to achieve good scores in this year’s tests as next year protocols become more stringent and provide increased challenges for vehicle development.”

Tesla Model S results

The Tesla Model S, which had not been tested since its last NCAP visit in 2014, initiated the proceedings.

It once again received a five-star rating and the best possible score of 98% for driver assistance, as per InsideEVs.

The level of passive safety is also relatively high, with 94% for adult occupant protection and 91% for child occupant protection. On the other hand, the Vulnerable Road User protection was graded 85%.

CnEVPost reported that the latest Euro NCAP safety test also awarded the NIO ET7 a five-star rating.

The ET7 earned 91% in the category of Adult Occupant, 87% in the category of Child Occupant, 73% in the category of Vulnerable Road Users, and 95% in the category of Safety Assist.

Danilo Teobaldi, Vice President of Vehicle Engineering at NIO, stated:

“With all active and safety features as standard, NIO’s ET7 was designed to offer its users, wherever they are in the world, the highest levels of safety.”

Only the DS 9 saloon received a star rating, as indicated by the Tweet above. Due to the “penalty in the frontal offset test for being an aggressive impact partner towards other electric vehicles,” Euro NCAP lowered the vehicle’s rating to 4 stars.

About Euro NCAP

The Euro NCAP was founded in 1997. It is an unbiased crash test safety organization that assesses and rates the safety of new vehicles. It developed a five-star safety rating system to help people to evaluate vehicles more easily.

That said, buyers might use these results to decide which choice is the safest given their standards.
