California-based electric automaker Mullen Automotive has just introduced its new sporty electric SUV, Five RS, at CES 2024 in Las Vegas on January 9.
Impressively, the Mullen Five RS claims to be capable of delivering more than 1,000 horsepower, along with other more enticing features.
“From the inception of Mullen, it has been my mission to bring an ultra-high-performance EV to market. The Five RS is intended to be one of the fastest vehicles on the planet, competing with some of the best and most well-known and regarded automotive marques.”
David Michery, Mullen’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement
Exterior design
Mullen’s Five RS is an extreme electric SUV with an outlandish body kit. It has a rear spoiler and 21″ wheels as standard. However, owners can also upgrade to 22″ wheels that can be 9.5″ or 11″ wide.
The Five RS is 193.0″ long from stem to stern with a 64.0″ height, 80.0″ width, 6.7″ ground clearance, and 116.0″ wheelbase.
It sports a commanding wide stance, sleek silhouette, and long dash-to-axle that improves the overall appearance.
Interior features
Mullen’s Five RS features four sporty individual seats to sustain a comfortable ride. As for the infotainment system, it integrates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an AI-based voice assistant.
It also has two large displays and a smaller screen for the front passenger. It also comes with a standard panoramic roof, a premium sound system, and customizable ambient lighting.
It also offers a 26 cubic feet cargo volume even when the rear seats are set in their standard setup. It increases to 62 cu ft when the owner folds the rear seats.
Technical details
The Mullen Five RS is currently the automaker’s most powerful model to date. As mentioned, Mullen aims to deliver an output of more than 1,000 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque for the model.
It will reportedly feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration with a dual-speed transmission, like the popular Porsche Taycan.
The Mullen Five RS also claims to be capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in sub-2 seconds. It indicates a 1.2-second headway from its toned-down version.
In addition, it boasts a top speed of more than 200 mph. Mullen further stated that the new model will have six-piston Brembo front calipers and 15.7″ two-piece carbon-ceramic rotors.
Meanwhile, the rear features four-piston calipers and 14.6″ rotors. These parts can stop the Five RS from 62 mph (100 kph) in 110 feet.
It will come with a 100-kilowatt-hour battery to power two electric motors, enabling a driving range of 300 miles. It can also support fast charging from 0% to 80% SoC in just around 20 minutes.
Mullen aims to roll out the Five RS sometime in 2025. However, it has yet to announce the model’s official pricing. Car and Driver reported Mullen CEO’s remarks during a press conference that it will have a base price of about $295,000. The carbon-fiber edition will be more expensive at approximately $385,000.
