Mini confirmed plans to launch the new 2025 Mini Cooper JCW EV, Motor1.com reports, citing two company executives.
However, the unnamed sources omitted to share more specific information about what’s in the pipeline with the publication. Nonetheless, they talked about the John Cooper Works’ future.
Exterior design
The automotive news platform suggests that the new 2025 Mini Cooper JCW EV may follow the brand’s design formula, which is basically a small hatch body with the following features:
- round headlights
- a high beltline
- a big oval grille upfront
As per the camouflaged JCW prototype’s spy shots, its front fascia will have a lip at the bottom and vertically oriented corner vents around the edges.
Its grille will likely have bigger vents at the bottom for better battery cooling management. Its side sills will aid in blending the car’s fascia with the overall vehicle layout. At the rear, there will likely be a thick extension around the rear glass. It will also feature a roof spoiler and a modest diffuser at the bottom. It will apparently come with two-tone 18″ 10-spoke wheels with red brake calipers.
Technical details
The 2025 Mini Cooper JCW EV may only use a single motor, which can only turn the front wheels.
Global Head of Mini Product Christian Wehner reportedly emphasized the importance of power and handling balance.
“All electric cars have good acceleration, but do all of these electric cars deliver go-kart fun? Definitely not. Because other things come into play, the weight of the car, the steering of the car, how it feels to sit in the car.”
Christian Wehner, Global Head of Mini Product
For reference, Mini lists a 249-mile WLTP-estimated driving range for the SE with a 54.2-kWh battery pack. In the US, the 2024 Mini SE only enables a 114-mile range. However, the EPA has yet to rate the new model, which the JCW trim will follow.
According to MotorTrend, the JCW will be the “higher-performance” trim based on the Cooper SE two-door hatchback. It will apparently generate the same output of 218 hp (160 kW) and 243 lb-ft of torque as the Cooper SE.
Mini has yet to determine and announce the debut of the new electric JCW. However, it already introduced the E and SE trims in September 2023, and JCW trims usually follow shortly.
That considered, the publication suggests that the official debut may occur in 2024 as a 2025 model. We’d likely learn more about this new model variant near its official market launch.
