UK-based automaker MG Motor, through its Indian arm, is developing its new small electric vehicle Comet for the local market. The company announced that the “game changer” EV will debut in India by late 2023.
What do we know so far about the MG Motor Comet?
Reports suggest the Comet EV will be a rebadged version of the Wulling Air EV. It must also be noted that it is a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). Unfortunately, MG Motor did not exhibit the EV at the 2023 Auto Expo in the country.
Nonetheless, the Comet EV will apparently have the following feature:
· LED headlights
· full-length front light bar
· dual-screen configuration (digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system)
· air conditioning
· multifunctional steering wheel, among other
As for the performance, reports suggest that it will be equipped with a 20kWh to 25kWh battery pack. Its range is expected to reach 200km and 300km on a single charge.
According to an established Indian auto platform, the MG Comet EV will debut in the country by May 2023 at ₹ 10.00 – 15.00 Lakh.
MG Motors India will offer five paint options: Blue, Green, Pink, White, and Yellow.

MG Motor claims that the Comet will aid drivers in avoiding the stress of driving in crowded urban cities. Notably, the company further stated that the new EV is a fast and cutting-edge response to rising gas prices, a lack of parking spaces, and rising pollution.
“Urban mobility is at a point of inflexion where New Age solutions are needed to address both the current as well the forthcoming challenges. As we move further into the digital age, we will witness an exceedingly large number of innovations that could range from futuristic technologies to unique designs to clean mobility and many others.
We at MG, through the Comet, intend to take the needed decisive steps and a leap of faith in the direction of creating solutions for a better future for each one of us.”

Indeed, compact cars can effectively solve drivers’ common problems while driving in urban areas. It would be interesting to see how this EV would compete with the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, among others.
