Mercedes has introduced a new in-car payment method compatible with the company’s car function membership technology, per a report.

After Mercedes began providing customers with new features they could access by paying a monthly subscription, the company became a controversial figure in the automotive manufacturing space. It introduced features such as steering for the back wheels and mobile controls for the heating and air conditioning.

In order to support these systems, Mercedes has introduced a brand-new in-car payment system, which comes equipped with a fingerprint scanner for authentication purposes.

The Mercedes pay+ system

The “Mercedes pay+” system is now available in Germany. It enables consumers to pay for the mentioned in-car services and improvements, such as remote parking support and responsive, high beam assist. It also allows “advanced navigation services that provide information on the weather or available parking spaces at customer’s destination.”

In the latter half of this year, Mercedes pay+ will be made available across a more comprehensive portion of Europe.

Mercedes also plans to incorporate the latest payment service with fueling and charging later this year.

Following the announcement of Mercedes’ newest operating system, the latest payment processing system has been developed. The brand aims to revitalize its user interface (U/I) encounter and enhance consumer satisfaction through the system.

The German luxury carmaker is one of many companies working toward increasing the profitability of car ownership for themselves. BMW has announced similar subscription services.

In contrast, Toyota has already integrated many of these features into the Toyota app, allowing customers to subscribe to remote start, mobile A/C controls, and various other features.

It is still being determined whether these custom functions will be beneficial or profitable for many carmakers, given automakers like Tesla have generally avoided the subscription model.

Analysts think that customers may favor these brands, particularly in the used market, because the features can be beneficial without the consumer paying the automaker.
