Italian luxury automaker Maserati has just confirmed plans to delay the market launch of the highly-awaited Quattroporte’s electric version to 2028, Motor1.com reports.
Excitingly, the Stellantis-owned brand plans to launch other new electric vehicle models before that.
Maserati’s upcoming electrified models
The GranCabrio Folgore is the first model to debut in late 2024, closely following its traditional internal combustion engine-powered counterpart’s rollout.
The luxury auto brand will then launch the zero-emissions variant of the MC20 in 2025, followed by a large e-SUV in 2027. It will probably arrive as the all-electric variant of the Levante.
Finally, the Quattroporte Folgore will have its turn in 2028. According to Maserati, all these new electric vehicles will undergo 100% design, development, and production in Italy.
“Driven by our Modena heart, we are going full throttle to lead change on electrification, with two of our iconic models already available for purchase in their 100 percent electric versions, and another on the way this year. We will offer our preferred customers the most powerful Maseratis ever, pushing the boundaries of driving pleasure to a new era.”
Maserati CEO Davide Grasso
CEO Grasso is referring to the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgo, which are now available in the European market.
What’s currently known about the Quattroporte EV?
Previous reports suggested that the Quattroporte EV will hit the market in 2024. That said, Maserati’s confirmation of the 2028 launch year indicates a 4-year gap from what we expected.
The next-gen Quattroporte EV is expected to ride on the same chassis as the upcoming Granturismo. It will also reportedly use the “Folgore” nameplate as the Granturismo and Grecale’s EV counterparts.
In addition, it is expected to feature a 105 kWh battery, similar to the Grecale Folgore. It may also arrive with an AWD configuration and 500+ horsepower as standard.
As for the driving range, it may enable a figure between Granturismo Folgore’s 279 miles and Grecale Folgore’s 300+ miles.
Electrification goals
Maserati is apparently the first Italian luxury automotive brand to focus on electric vehicle development and production, aligning with Stellantis’ electrification push “Dare Forward 2030.”
The imminent arrival of the above-mentioned electric vehicles demonstrates the brand’s full commitment to more sustainable mobility.
Maserati has also participated in the world’s first all-electric racing series, Formula E, since 2023.
Maserati’s intensified focus on electric vehicles is crucial for the brand to stay competitive in the rapidly growing market, especially in the midst of Tesla’s dominance in the luxury segment.
