Japanese-Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch its first-ever electric vehicle eVX in 2025. The new model has yet to make its official debut later this year. However, recent spy shots during testing revealed some details about the upcoming EV.
Spy shots
Car & Bike reported the emergence of recent spy shots of the Maruti Suzuki eVX while undergoing road tests.
However, the electric vehicle wore a heavy camouflage during the testing, impeding us to see more details.
Nonetheless, it failed to conceal an ADAS sensor module in the front bumper. The sensor module seems to be located between the numberplate and the grille. This notable feature hints at the possibility of the eVX becoming the brand’s first vehicle to offer ADAS features.
What’s currently known about the eVX?
The upcoming eVX is set to become Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever electric vehicle offering in the Indian market. It will reportedly spawn a Toyota-badged counterpart in the future.
Moreover, the spied model featured more production-oriented headlamps compared to the concept version. It also lacked the distinctive Y-shaped LED lighting.
Nonetheless, the production model still sports the concept’s core silhouette with a more traditional front fascia. It has open-air inlets at the bottom part of the bumper. It also has more simplified wheels, a significant shift from the concept’s aerodynamic quality.
Inside, the production model showed a similar design to the concept car unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. It includes a widescreen display above the dashboard.
In hindsight, Maruti Suzuki initially introduced the eVX as a concept car at the recent 2023 Auto Expo. It unveiled the more developed prototype globally at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023.
Technical specs
The upcoming eVX could potentially become one of the most popular electric vehicle models in the Indian market, considering its 550 km driving range from a 60 kWh battery.
It will ride on Suzuki’s 27PL skateboard architecture, which claims to be capable of paving the way for cheaper models in the coming years.
We can expect to learn more about the model’s key specifications near its debut later this year.
Availability and pricing
Maruti Suzuki plans to produce the eVX in its recently purchased Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) factory in India.
It will develop a new production line to support the eVX’s upcoming production, potentially boosting the facility’s current annual production rate of 7.5 lakh units.
The automaker has yet to reveal the official pricing of the eVX. However, previous reports expect the model to start above Rs 10 lakh.
It will compete with the likes of the MG ZS EV, the upcoming Hyundai CRETA EV, and the Tata Curvv EV upon its market launch in 2025. Before that, the eVX is expected to debut in late 2024.
