After many years, the abandoned Tesla Roadsters trio finally got out of their containers after arriving in China in 2010. According to the reports, these iconic Roadsters will proceed to Gruber Motors in the United States for a technical evaluation.
It is worth noting that the sellers auctioned the three Tesla Roadsters with Gruber Motors’ help in May, reaching a maximum $2 million bid for the trio. Despite this significant amount, the sellers still accept further bids as the auction is still listed as “indefinite.”
About the Tesla Roadster trio
A Chinese customer apparently bought the three US-spec LHD Roadsters from Tesla for R&D purposes way back in 2010. Interestingly, the units were never removed from their containers since they arrived in China.
In an effort to sell the electric vehicle models, the self-proclaimed first commercial independent Tesla service organization Gruber Motors moved to help the sellers by attempting to match them with buyers through an auction.
“So, what if you could go back in time, Tesla time, that is, and buy a brand new Roadster from Tesla? Would you do it?
Here is your chance, since a time capsule has just been opened…”
Gruber Motors
In significant progress, Gruber Motors released numerous updates about the Tesla Roadster trio, revealing that they were finally taken out from their crates. They are now moved into their new sea containers by customs as the sellers will ship them to the US, where they will undergo Gruber Motors’ technical review.
Gruber released an update on July 18, revealing that the units are now on their way to the US. It estimated the Roadsters’ arrival in the country on August 17.
“Here are the latest developments:
Containers are on the Ocean going ship now headed towards the USA.
The estimated arrival date to the Long Beach port is 8/17.
Arrangements have been made with a customs broker to clear them. They advised that the process shouldn’t take long, maybe 2 days unless customs decides to put a random hold and request a physical inspection.
They advised that they rarely do that, but in the event that an inspection is requested, the process should add about a week or so. We will post updates.”
