Production plans
LG Electronic’s 5,500-square-meter factory in Fort Worth will house the production of advanced electric vehicle chargers for North America. Impressively, the new factory will utilize 100% green power.
The South Korean company aims to gradually reach mass production by setting an annual capacity target of 12,000 units.
LG Electronic started the production operation with 11-kWh AC charging points. However, the most exciting part of the process is the production of DC fast chargers, which will start in H1 2024.
The company aims to begin with 175-kW chargers and then gradually add a 350-kW unit later this year.
Significance
LG Electronic’s move to produce and offer electric vehicle chargers for the North American market will undoubtedly aid the region in its shift to electric vehicles.
In the US alone, battery electric vehicle annual sales recently surpassed one million units for the first time. It still has the potential to surge by the end of the decade.
Therefore, the growing number of electric vehicle owners will need sufficient and reliable chargers across the country.
“By establishing our EV charger production factory in Texas, we will be able to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for EV infrastructure in the U.S.. LG is dedicated to delivering uncompromising quality and will offer customers reliable EV charging solutions that combine efficient charger units with advanced control systems.”
Jang Ik-hwan, LG Business Solutions Company President
LG Electronics’ move to expand its business in North America will enable it to capitalize on the US‘ financial aid for building more public electric vehicle chargers. Notably, the Biden administration aims to deploy at least 500,000 public chargers by 2030 to support the growing number of EVs on the road.
