South Korean YouTube channel Shorts Car has just spotted the affordable Kia EV2 while testing in the wild. It shared a brief video showcasing a camouflaged unit of the new Kia EV2.

Considering Kia’s preference for SUV models, the upcoming EV2 will highly likely sport a crossover or SUV-like body instead of a hatch. As you can see in the spy video, the EV2 has a boxy SUV shape like the EV3 and EV5. It features a bold front fascia and an LED headlight system with LED DRLs. It also has aggressive alloy wheels, black-colored ORVMS, a side profile with cladding, and roof rails.

Shorts Car also claims that the model will cost about $14,500 (20 million Won). It is also expected to sport the brand’s new “Opposites United” design, including new elements like a “Tiger Face” grille. It will also get a sporty GT variant like the Kia EV3.

Kia Chief Executive Ho-Sung Song previously said in an interview that affordable electric vehicle modes are “very important” to the brand’s future. He further noted that the model is a “very unique and important model” in major markets like Europe.

Launch timeline

Kia has yet to reveal the key specifications of the EV2. Nonetheless, the South Korean company is expected to disclose more details about the upcoming electric car.

According to News 18, Kia is set to officially launch the EV2 model somewhere around 2025. However, the company still needs to confirm these speculations about the new model’s launch date.

Kia’s upcoming EVs

Kia introduced three new low-cost electric vehicle models during its first annual EV Day in October 2023, including the EV3, EV4, and EV5.

In November 2023, Kia launched the EV5 electric SUV in the Chinese market at about $20,000 (149,800 yuan). Kia expects this model to challenge Tesla Model Y’s dominance.

Meanwhile, the Kia EV3 electric compact SUV is expected to debut this summer. It will reportedly launch a sporty GT line in the fall. After that, the company plans to introduce the EV4 electric sedan with a distinctive design and build.

Kia plans to kick off the EV3’s production at its Slovakia factory in Europe in 2025. It will play a crucial role in the brand’s plans to launch a wide range of electric vehicles priced from $20,000 to $80,000.
