According to Kia, its global vehicle sales increased by 236,874 units in December from a year earlier by almost 14%. The company sold 2,903,619 vehicles in 2022, representing an increase of 4.6 percent from the previous year. That’s a reasonably encouraging result from a challenging year.
Additionally, things in terms of electrification are excellent. The all-electric Kia EV6 reported 7,628 wholesale sales, including 1,237 in South Korea and 6,391 exported, which are closely related to production. That is an increase of 36% from one year ago.
Kia provides preliminary, unaudited data on wholesale sales (at the manufacturer or plant level). The retail sales of the Kia Niro EV and Kia Soul EV outside of South Korea, on the other hand, have been declining year over year.
Wholesale sales of Kia EV6 electric vehicles
3,885 sales figures of the Kia EV6 beyond South Korea, such as 1,107 in the US, are listed by Kia in its monthly sales reports report. Outside of South Korea, retail sales of the Niro EV and Soul EV totaled 3,386 and 367, respectively.
Sales of Kia BEVs last month:
· 3,885 retail sales outside of South Korea, per EV6 (7,628 wholesale – 1,237 in South Korea and 6,391 exported)
· 3,386 retail sales of the Niro outside South Korea.
· 376 retail sales for Soul EV outside of South Korea.
· Total: at least 8,875 (3.7% of the total volume), down 15% from the previous year.
· South Korea (EV6) + data from overseas retail sales (EV6, Niro EV, Soul EV)
Sadly, Kia doesn’t provide PHEV numbers.
2022 sales
According to Kia, the Kia EV6 model sales reached nearly 80,000 units in 2022. Over 83,000 wholesale units sold, up from less than 30,000 in 2021.
In total, the company produced over 112,000 EV6s. The majority of them—more than 77,000—were exported.
Outside of South Korea, retail sales of the Kia Niro EV and Kia Soul EV dropped in 2022 by 19% and 41%, respectively, year over year, but overall, Kia had a successful year thanks to the sale of at least 132,000 all-electric vehicles, a 51% increase over 2021.
Sales of Kia BEVs in 2022:
· EV6: 53,571 retail transactions outside of South Korea (83,411 wholesale – 24,852 in South Korea and 58,559 exported)
· Niro EV: 48,285 retail outlet sales outside of South Korea
· Soul EV: 5,572 retail sales outside of South Korea.
· 4.6% of the total volume or at least 132,280 (up 51% year over year)
· South Korea (EV6) + overseas retail sales data (EV6, Niro EV, Soul EV)
The company wants to boost its total vehicle sales in 2023 to 3.2 million units (a rise of over 10%) and keep growing the market for electric vehicles.
We are quietly confident about this strategy because Kia will soon introduce its brand-new Kia EV9 model, which is based on the E-GMP.
