Luxury automotive brand Jaguar proudly announced its newly formed partnership with electric vehicle giant Tesla for the North American Charging Standard (NACS) in a press release.
Notably, the move is part of the automaker’s efforts to fully shift to electric vehicles and achieve carbon neutrality.
“JLR is dedicated to helping our clients make the switch to electric vehicles and to our commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2039. Today’s announcement is an important step as we deliver an outstanding charging experience for our all-electric Jaguar clients. Whilst most charging takes place at home, when away from home, our clients want access to fast, reliable, and convenient chargers.”

Agreement details
Jaguar and Tesla officially inked an agreement that allows Jaguar EV owners to access the latter’s enormous and reliable Supercharger network.
It is basically similar to Tesla’s deals with other automakers that previously announced plans to adopt the charging standard.
That said, current and future Jaguar customers can utilize the 12,000+ Tesla Superchargers by 2024. However, they must use a NACS adapter to be compatible with its charging port.
Meanwhile, the next-gen Jaguar EVs will feature NACS connectors to eliminate the need for adapters in the US, Canada, and Mexico by 2025.
Apart from its electric cars, Jaguar also plans to integrate NACS connectors into its home chargers. It will also acquire Tesla-developed adapters and distribute them to its I-PACE owners.
“Tesla has created a charging network across the globe that delivers this, and we are delighted to be working with them to provide access for Jaguar clients. This agreement will enable Jaguar drivers with NACS-equipped vehicles in the USA, Canada, and Mexico to use Superchargers without an adapter.”

Domino effect
American legacy automakers Ford and General Motors are among the first players to announce support for Tesla NACS.
Since then, many established companies followed like a domino effect, including Aptera, Rivian, Honda, Acura, Fisker, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, and Volvo.
Apart from that, many charging providers also announced plans to offer Tesla NACS in their charging stations, including Blink and Chargepoint. It is a crucial move, given that many automakers will be using NACS connectors by 2025.
They aim to tap into Tesla’s Supercharger network to attract more customers and boost sales. They also seek to contribute to standardizing charging technology to improve the region’s charging network.

The decision to join the growing NACS family is part of its parent company, JLR’s “Reimagine strategy.” The automaker aims to turn Jaguar into an all-electric premium brand and achieve carbon neutrality by 2039.
Moreover, gaining access to Tesla’s extensive charging network will undoubtedly boost the brand’s sales, as it can attract many customers to choose its EVs.
