Jaguar Land Rover-owned luxury brand Jaguar was the first in the segment to launch an all-electric crossover in the US. The maiden EV was the I-Pace, which reached its first American owner in October 2018.
The I-Pace EV was undoubtedly a competitive model at that time with its 394hp-capable dual motor and 234 miles EPA range. However, its prevalence waned amid the growing number of startups and legacy automakers penetrating the EV market.
Nonetheless, the company only views the I-Pace as the onset of its more aggressive EV push.
Jaguar to launch new EV models
Parent company Jaguar Land Rover announced plans to spend £2.25 billion ($2.9 billion) to boost the electrification of the Jaguar brand.
JLR primarily commits this significant investment to developing and producing new battery-powered vehicles under the Jaguar nameplate.
As per the report, one of the new EVs will have a six-figure price. In exchange, it will offer a driving range of about 400 miles and improved fast charging capabilities. The brand claims it can charge up to 200 miles in just 15 minutes.
JLR’s Chief Creative Officer indicated that the luxury brand’s new EVs would adopt four relevant pillars: exuberance, fearlessness, uniqueness, and progressiveness.
“Being exuberant is a real task, as there’s nothing else around like that. Jaguars need to have a jaw-dropping moment, a sense of wow.”

Apart from the $2.9 billion investment, JLR also previously announced plans to spend $16.5 million for various initiatives such as the following:
- Artificial Intelligene
- Autonomous Driving
- Upgrading production facilities, and more
