Genesis‘ research in Europe revealed that the innovative solar roof on the Electrified G80 can increase the vehicle’s range by up to 1,150 km (715 miles) each year, according to Electric Cars Reports.
How does the solar roof affect Genesis G80’s range?
Hyundai luxury vehicle brand boasts an advanced photovoltaic (PV) silicon-based material used in solar roof panels. Remarkably, this technology functions as a conductor and absorbs sunlight to generate power.
The Electrified G80’s solar roof panels make use of high-performance cells with excellent charging efficiency. The panels can generate 210W of electricity when exposed to sufficient sunlight and have a power of 204W.
Meanwhile, the low voltage 12V battery in the Electrified G80 can also be charged by the solar roof.
The Electrified G80’s excellent WLTP 323-mile range can be increased even further due to its advanced solar technology applications.
This range improvement can contribute roughly 0.7 kWh of energy based on an average of about six hours of daylight. As a result, the range is increased by 3 km (1.8 miles) every day, or 1,150 km (715 miles), per year.
However, the solar roof’s efficiency is dependent on the environment. Therefore, the range will be lesser in nations with shorter daylight hours.
In the United Kingdom, costs for the electrified G80 start at $65,000, while its optional sunroof pack is £1,360.
