South Korean automaker Hyundai reports surprisingly strong demand for its most expensive model to date, the Ioniq 5 N, in Australia. According to Teslarati, Hyundai Australia already recorded 126 pre-orders for the new electric hot hatch in just 12 hours.

Hyundai briefly opened pre-orders for the Ioniq 5 N over the weekend during the Melbourne EV Show. Hyundai Australia Chief John Kett expressed satisfaction with the model’s number of pre-orders during that period.

“We had a little (internal guess) going on between all of us and it ranged from 100 (orders in the pre-sale) to 500-plus. It’s still a pretty significant price, so we’re happy with what we’ve got. (For) the enthusiasts that are very much connected to (Hyundai) N or a performance (electric car), we’re probably the first to come to market.”

Hyundai Australia Chief John Kett

As per the report, approximately 78% of the pre-order holders were new Hyundai customers. Meanwhile, the remaining 22% were existing owners.

Pricing

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has a base price of AU$111,000 ($71,200), excluding on-road costs. It is more than twofold pricier than the brand’s performance-oriented car, the Hyundai i30 N petrol hot hatch, at $53,700 plus on-road costs.

Hyundai ensured that the model would be worth its premium price as it is currently the brand’s strongest and fastest-accelerating car in the country.

Ok I’m done criticizing MCC for now. Really hope Scott and Noxcrew would listen to the criticism and do what they can to correct themselves.
