South Korean automaker Hyundai has officially begun producing its new 2024 Kona Electric model at its Nošovice factory in Czechia, Europe.
Hyundai, through its local arm Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC), aims to produce 21,000 Kona Electrics by the end of 2023. It would further increase to another 50,000 units in FY 2024.
“Hyundai regards Europe as a core market, which is reflected in our dedication to our customers across the continent. That is why we produce more than 70 per cent of our models – designed with European customers in mind – in Europe. In response to the growing demand for our electric vehicles in the region and with a focus on shortened delivery times, producing one of our most important electric cars in Europe underlines the importance of the European market for Hyundai.”
Michael Cole, Hyundai Motor Europe President/CEO
Kona Electric to account for 15% of the Nošovice factory’s total output
Hyundai will predominantly sell this new model for European customers. Nonetheless, it will still be available in other foreign markets, including Turkey, Israel, Reunion, and Guadalupe.
Moreover, Hyundai’s Nošovice factory will also produce Kona Electric’s right-hand-drive variant for the UK, Cyprus, and Ireland.
The European factory will supply Kona Electric units to 42 countries. That said, HMMC predicts the new EV will account for a notable 15% of the factory’s total output by late 2023.
The factory will still build the previous-gen model, particularly the two single-motor FWD variants.
Below are the key specs of the Kona Electric’s base and longer-range model:
Kona Electric | Base Model | Longer-Range Model |
Battery Pack | 48.4 kWh | 65.4 kWh |
Electric Motor Output | 154-horsepower | 215-horsepowe |
WLTP range | 234 miles (377 kilometers) | 319 miles (514 km) |
