During a presentation at the Chicago Auto Show earlier on February 9, Hyundai Motor North America unveiled Evolve+, a new month-to-month EV subscription program targeted at “EV curious” consumers.

Notably, the total monthly cost includes 1,000 miles, insurance, maintenance, registration, and roadside assistance. This turnkey option will start with a few EVs from the Hyundai brand.

Through a mobile app, drivers can sign up for Hyundai’s month-to-month subscription scheme for the Ioniq 5 or Kona EV and pick up their vehicle at a participating dealer.

Hyundai to continue their electrification

A few years into 2023, Hyundai Motor Group will continue its titanic foray into electrification.

Remarkably, the Korean automaker has not only fully embraced the switch to EVs across its three brands but also continues to offer customers some of the best value regarding technology, performance, and design.

Customers can choose a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kona Electric from the app, pick it up at a nearby dealer, and then download the app.

Hyundai IONIQ 6 Electrified Streamliner

The IONIQ 6 Streamliner from Hyundai is expected to compete with Lucid Air for the top spot in 2023 models. It has a confirmed 140 merged MPGe rating and an EPA-estimated range of up to 361 miles.

Before it joins Hyundai’s lineup of EVs later this year, along with the IONIQ 5 and Kona Electric, the forthcoming EV can be seen in the automaker’s most recent advertisement campaign, which features Kevin Bacon.

Both of the models mentioned above are still popular with consumers, who are growing more interested in and enthusiastic about the possibility of switching to an all-electric vehicle at a reasonable price.

“With no paperwork, no commitment, and no long-term loan, Evolve+ is an optimal solution for the ‘EV curious’ car shopper. We are hoping that by offering a subscription-based option, we will increase EV adoption and awareness as customers transition into an EV future.”

Evolve+ monthly subscriptions

Evolve+ is a new pay period EV subscription that allows potential customers to test drive a Hyundai vehicle without all the paperwork but with all the essential services included.

Subscriptions, as opposed to multi-year contract commitments, have emerged as a new segment of vehicle rental as EVs account for a more significant proportion of recent car sales.

PCMag recently tried Autonomy, another subscription service with a related mobile app for month-to-month Tesla rentals (other vehicles coming soon). Borrow is another EV-only paid subscription option.

However, EVs are generally more expensive than gasoline-powered vehicles. Nonetheless, Hyundai Kona Electric and Ioniq 5 are among the most affordable, at $33,550 and $41,450, respectively.

In a press release issued following today’s presentation at the Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai Motor North America revealed details about its new EV subscription service.

Evolve+ will give month-to-month subscriptions to Kona Electric and the IONIQ 5, beginning at $699 and $899 per month, respectively. Hyundai provided the following price comparison to show how its new EV subscription choice compares to other purchasing methods.
