South Korean legacy automaker Hyundai Motor Group topped an American range evaluation test with its innovative Hyundai and Kia electric vehicles on Monday, Aju Korea Daily reports, citing automotive website Edmunds’ findings.

South Korean’s dominance in EV range

According to the report, the award-winning Hyundai Ioniq 6 in rear-wheel-drive configuration ranked first in the range evaluation test. It recorded the highest electric vehicle range of 1,396 kilometers (867 miles) in just an hour of charging.

The Kia EV6 RWD secured the second-highest spot with 1,238 kilometers of driving range. Meanwhile, the Ioniq 6 in all-wheel-drive setup landed in third position with a range of up to 1,230 kilometers.

It's been a year since I bought my #Kia #kiaEV6 #EV6 (base mosel Air RWD) as a 1 month old pre registered car. And yesterday it turned 25000 miles. Apart from these three EVs, numerous models from the South Korean group got in the top 10 in the evaluation test for maximum electric vehicle range.

For instance, the Kia EV6 GT Line variant claimed the fifth spot with a range of 1,091 kilometers, followed by Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 AWD model with a 1,083-kilometer range.

Another Hyundai brand, Genesis, also gained a spot in the rankings, with the G80 electrified model landing in the eighth spot (946 kilometers)

Tesla fell behind

In contrast, Tesla’s popular electric vehicles failed to secure a spot in the top five of the maximum range rankings.

The all-electric Tesla Model 3 sedan in the Long Range variant only hit the 10th spot with a 916-kilometer range.

Its sibling Model Y, the world’s top-selling vehicle, landed 14th spot with a range of 866 kilometers.

Another American brand, General Motors, also fell behind, with Chevrolet’s Bolt EUV Premier landing the 43rd spot (277 kilometers), the lowest rank on the list. Meanwhile, its entry-level 288-km Bolt variant was only ahead by one spot at 42nd spot.

These results in Edmunds’ range evaluation test only highlight Hyundai and Kia’s competitiveness when it comes to electric vehicle technologies, even beating the American leader Tesla in terms of range. It can be a major attraction for potential customers seeking to buy electric vehicle models with more extended ranges to avoid range anxiety.
