Technology giant Huawei has teased a new electric coupe, raising speculations that the model may be from its joint venture with local brand Chery.

Huawei-owned Zhixuan auto business unit’s first electric coupe marks its first model to feature the new HarmonyOS 4 operating system, CnEVPost reports citing the company’s smart car solutions unit CEO Richard Yu.

Luxeed brand teased

As mentioned, the new electric coupe will offer the HarmonyOS 4. For context, HarmonyOS is the company’s new operating system after it lost the right to use Android a few years ago. The latest version, HarmonyOS 4, launched on Friday at Huawei’s HDC 2023 developer conference.

The company will reportedly design the new EV with a disruptive layout, with plans to debut it as soon as this quarter.

CEO Yu omitted to share more details about the new coupe. However, the EV apparently has a “LUXEED” name at the front.

Notably, this preview signifies the first appearance of Luxeed in the automotive space. Nonetheless, it hints that the new EV will be under the Luxeed brand. Interestingly, EV enthusiasts speculate that the brand may be the JV between Chery and Huawei.

As of now, the tech giant only has one joint brand with Chinese automaker Seres, AITO. Its offerings include the M5 and M7 SUVs. They are both available in EREV and BEV powertrain configurations.

However, Chinese media 36kr reported that the tech giant was co-developing at least two new models with Chery on June 14 last year. Apart from that, it also reportedly partnered with JAC to develop another model. Moreover, it also tapped BAIC’s Arcfox brand with a similar purpose.

The teased Zhixuan” model has Huawei highly committed to producing EVs with OEMs. The models are reportedly selling under the company’s network.

All that said, it would be exciting to see how the new electric coupe would compete in the world’s largest auto market. We can expect more details about the new EV after its official debut.
