Japanese legacy automaker Honda finally started the sales of its first electric SUV, Prologue, in the United States in late April 2024. Meanwhile, its sub-brand Acura has also begun delivering the new ZDX high-performance electric SUV to local dealerships on May 1.
Honda Prologue kicks off customer deliveries
Honda officially started the Prologue’s customer deliveries in the US market by the end of April 2024. As of last month, the electric SUV sold a total of 93 units.
These 93 unit sales only represent 0.1% of Honda’s total 106,042 vehicle sales in April 2024, which grew 3.2% year-on-year. While the Honda Prologue’s sales only account for a very tiny portion of the overall sales, it will surely top the first hundred milestone in its first full month result.
Honda’s luxury brand has also finally launched the new Acura ZDX and the performance-oriented ZDX Type S at US dealers.
Partnership with General Motors
Both the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX ride on General Motors’ popular Ultium platform. They also underwent production at the American legacy automaker’s factories in North America.
This remarkable partnership enabled Honda to speed up its electrification efforts to catch up in the US market. Moreover, it also helped the two new electric SUVs to benefit from the federal tax credits of up to $7,500.
