Japanese automaker Honda exhibited its new electric SUV trio at the Auto Shanghai 2023, with two models being pre-production prototypes.
These new electric models are the e:NP2 and e:NS2 prototypes and the e:N SUV Concept.
Remarkably, Honda equipped all these models with the company’s new design language of flat surfaces and sharp edges.
Honda e:NS2 and e:NP2 SUV models
Honda will first produce the e:NS2 and e:NP2, which are set to succeed the automaker’s HR-V-based e:NS1 and e:NP1 unveiled in 2022. Arena EV also suggests that these twin models are particularly designed for the Chinese market.
The new e:NS2 and e:NP2 will have different front-light signatures than the old models. Despite having a similar appearance, they have different front fascias.
AutoCar reports that the e:NS2 will be equipped with an “angular LED daytime running lights” similar to Peugeot EVs. Meanwhile, the e:NP2 will have a Honda Civic-like architecture.
The automaker has not revealed many details about the models. Nonetheless, it remarked that both EVs will provide a “unique driving pleasure that enables the driver to enjoy a sense of oneness with the vehicle.”
As for the schedule, the automaker announced that both models would hit the Chinese market early next year.
e:N SUV Concept
Apart from the e:NS2 and e:NP2, Honda also debuted the e:N model. It has some sharper angles than Honda’s other models. It also boasts thin headlights and a rising body line.
Interestingly, it will also be the first model to use Honda’s EV-dedicated platform. CarBuzz reports that this model will target more upmarket customers as it has a bigger form and a bolder exterior design.
Furthermore, it will also be equipped with the company’s newest driver-assist and safety features, on top of the AI-powered Honda Connect technology.
According to the company, the e:N SUV will launch in the Chinese market in 2024. It will mark the brand’s new-gen EVs for the world’s largest auto market.
However, Honda has no plans to launch the e:N SUV in the European and the US market. Nonetheless, the automaker will launch the e:Ny1 and Prologue concepts for those major regions, correspondingly.
Notably, these new models are part of Honda’s strategy to debut 10 EV models in the Chinese market by 2027 under its core brand. It also aims to sell 100% of EVs in the country by 2035.
