Elon Musk’s short keynote was simultaneously live-streamed on Twitter and YouTube by Tesla.

Tesla has purchased and restored the HP Garage in Palo Alto, California, for its new Global Engineering Headquarters.

This is the birthplace of Silicon Valley, with historical importance in the rise of Palo Alto as the world’s leading technology center.

We’re inheriting an incredible legacy here, and It’s a nice sort of poetic transition from HP to Tesla, We obviously intend to keep carrying that torch forward

Tesla moved to focus on Cybertruck and Model Y production

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Tesla CEO Elon Musk moved from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas.

He decided to concentrate on the progress of the Cybertruck and the Tesla Model Y manufacturing ramp at Giga, Texas, and continue leading SpaceX’s Starship program.

Later in 2021, due to various factors, including disagreements with the California government over the Fremont factory closures, Tesla’s headquarters were relocated to Austin, Texas.

However, since Tesla’s inception in 2003, California has been the automaker’s engineering and R&D headquarters. With this in mind, Tesla and Musk may have decided to keep the core engineering advancement in California.

Musk hire around 48,000 people in California

Tesla manufactures Megapack stationary storage systems at its Megafactory in Lathrop, and the Fremont factory produces the most cars (of any type) in North America.

While Tesla Autopilot, chip development, robot design and development, and new vehicle design will occur at Tesla’s engineering headquarters in Palo Alto, California.

Elon Musk claims that Tesla already hires around 48,000 people in California. As a result of the new engineering headquarters, Tesla will create more job opportunities in the state.

Damn! It’s poppin! It’s amazing to know that the future of sustainability, hardcore @Tesla engineering and technology will be reimagined back where it all started. @HP but now the Global HQ for Engineering! @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/p5C1JY9iXU

Investor Day in March 2023

During his address and live stream, Elon Musk remembered to mention that Tesla Model Y and Model 3 cars were the best-selling vehicles in California in 2022, not just for electric vehicles but overall.

Tesla also brought several pre-production Cybertrucks to the Global Engineering HQ opening party.

Some attendees reported seeing two Cybertruck close-to-production prototypes at the event, one outside the headquarters and the other inside, where the presentation occurred.

Musk also declared that this year’s Investor Day would be held on March 1, 2023.

Notably, the Global Engineering HQ party was primarily a recruitment event designed to attract new talent interested in working on game-changing products and ideas.
