Chinese battery maker Gotion has successfully begun production at its German battery plant in Göttingen on September 16. The Jubilee battery product was apparently the first domestically produced battery pack in the city, according to the press release.
“The official launch of the first battery pack today stands as a testament to the hard work and ingenuity displayed by all the factory’s employees. We look forward to collaborating with European enterprises to promote carbon emission reduction in the EU and foster the dynamic growth of both new energy vehicles and industries.”

Event highlights
Lower Saxony Governor Stephan Weil and Consul General of China in Hamburg Cong Wu attended the launch ceremony to celebrate Gotion’s milestone in its European operation hub.
Volkswagen-backed company also inked the necessary cooperation agreements with international firms like BASF, ABB, Ebusco, and Ficosa.
Gotion’s guests simultaneously pressed the start button to kick off the launch of the company’s first-ever automated battery pack manufacturing line in Germany.
An Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) slowly delivered the maiden battery pack from the testing line to the guests.
“I’m very lucky, it’s a very good moment in my life.”

About the factory
Gotion has indeed achieved a “Made In Germany” battery, considering the battery pack production line’s formal commissioning and operation.
“Our Göttingen factory’s production line is highly automated, with an overall automation level of nearly 70%, and close to 80% in the module assembly stage.”
Ray Chen, Gotion Global VP
Gotion CTO Steven Cai also disclosed that the Göttingen factory will have a production output of 20GWh. The Chinese battery maker expects to hit this production target in four phases.
The press release further noted that the factory will initially have a capacity valuation of EUR 2 billion per year once it achieves full operation.
The Göttingen factory’s first production line successfully kicked off its volume production through the launch event.
Strong demand
Gotion reportedly gained significant orders for the products that will undergo production at the Göttingen factory.
It aims to begin supplying European customers as early as October. Meanwhile, it expects to achieve an initial production capacity of 5 GWh by mid-2024.
“The battery pack products from the factory include those for commercial vehicles, energy storage systems, and passenger vehicles. Additionally, the factory will serve as an R&D, logistics, and after-sales service center for Gotion’s European production and operations base.”
Peter Willemsen, Gotion Global COO
As mentioned, Gotion has also committed to partnering with five globally established firms with various objectives, ranging from battery materials, product development, and automotive and energy storage product supply. These companies include BASF, ABB, Ebusco, Ficosa and Idneo.
