“We are proud to introduce an unprecedented vehicle to the Mexican market. Its combination of advanced safety offerings, convenience features and best-in-class range make it the ideal option for our customers. Today’s announcement reaffirms our commitment to achieve a zero-emissions future.”

Paco Garza, GM Mexico President and Managing Director

Mexican expansion details

The news emerged from BrightDrop headquarters on Monday. It officially disclosed that the company will begin selling its  Zevo 400 and 600 e-vans in Mexico.

The Zevo 600 has a 165 kWh battery pack that supports a driving range of 250 miles between charges. Meanwhile, the Zevo 400 is somehow smaller than the former model. We can expect more details about this BrightDrop e-van near its production in late 2023.

Unfortunately, parent company GM has yet to reveal the exact date of the e-van models’ market launch. Nonetheless, it stated that Mexican customers could start placing orders by late 2023.

Chief Commercial Officer Steve Hornyak elaborated on the potential advantage of its Mexican expansion to its business goals.

“Bringing BrightDrop’s products to Mexico is a key move in our mission to decarbonize delivery globally, while helping customers take advantage of the economic benefits of going electric. Electrifying vehicle fleets can positively impact the environment and companies’ bottom line. By bringing BrightDrop solutions closer to our customers throughout North America, we can help make the EV transition as seamless as possible.”

BrightDrop also disclosed that it has been ramping up the production of the Zevo 600 in Ontario. The Zevo 400 production will follow in the “next few months.”

GM established BrightDrop in 2021 to produce a wide range of electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs) and connected software services. Since then, BrightDrop advanced in the eLCV market, with orders from FedEx, Ryder, DHL Express, etc.

Launching the commercial EV business unit is a crucial part of GM’s strategy to prosper in the highly competitive industry.
