General Motors Co. has auctioned its first 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV for $500,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction on January 28. Notably, its production only started on January 30 at GM’s Factory ZERO Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly.
GMC supports outdoor recreation
GMC donated its first 2024 Hummer EV SUV to the auction company. Then, Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction will donate all the sale proceeds to a non-profit organization, “Tread Lightly!,” whose mission is to encourage outdoor recreation through stewardship and educational initiatives. It includes hunting, fishing, and off-road driving, among others.

It is worth noting that Barrett-Jackson eliminated the commissions and fees usually charged with their collector car auctions. That said, Tread Lightly! will be given the full amount of the GMC Hummer EV SUV’s earnings.
Tread Lightly! will allocate the funds toward a number of projects aimed at trail restorations and educational programs. Apart from that, the $500,000 funds will also be used for projects that encourage outdoor ethics and a sense of good stewardship in nature.

GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV
The VIN 001 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV sold on Saturday is equipped with a three-motor e4WD powertrain. It offers an estimated horsepower of 830 and an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in little under 3.5 seconds.
These features allow the electric SUV to drive off-road without producing annoying noise and emitting carbon dioxide. That said, it cannot disturb wildlife compared to other off-road vehicles.
Interestingly, it aligns with Tread Lightly! ‘s mission of good stewardship in nature.
As for the charging, it supports 800-volt DC public fast charging with a 300 kW maximum capacity.
GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV: Reservation, production, launch, price
GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV is currently sold out of reservations. As of now, there are no details if the company would accept additional orders and when.
GM’s Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly expects to start full production later this year, as it has only commenced on Monday.
At launch, the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV will be painted with a special shade of Moonshot Green Matte. A later date will bring about cheaper versions of the Edition 1 SUV, which now starts at $105,595.
