GMC Global Vice President Duncan Aldred and GM Authority Buick reportedly announced that the GMC Hummer electric vehicles are “sold out for two years or more,” as per InsideEVs.
GMC Hummer EVs exceeded 90,000 reservations
Both the GMC Hummer EV SUV and the GMC Hummer EV Pickup are in high demand. In fact, it pushed the automaker to end reservations after they topped 90,000, which is covered by $100 refundable deposits. Delivery times for new orders must be extensive, regardless of a fast production ramp-up.
Moreover, the automaker would probably produce 45,000 units annually if all those reservations turned into official orders. As per the report, these figures are remarkably large, especially compared to the 783 units already delivered (between December 2021 and September 2022).
In retrospect, GMC announced that it secured 65,000 reservations for GMC Hummer EVs last March. Brand chief Duncan Aldred stated that time, “Production’s actually slightly ahead of plan, and we’re putting things in place now to actually expedite that as well, so we can deliver these reservations quicker than we originally thought. We’re seeing momentum building,” adding that “it still means a reservation now probably means delivering in ’24.”
Production is increasing
According to GM Authority, the automaker produced 2,570 GMC Hummer EV pickup trucks for around a year.
Notably, GMC Hummer EV production is increasing. In fact, it rose to a new record high of 750 in September. It would be 9,000 each year if General Motors could continue at this rate. However, it is still insufficient to meet demand.
Nonetheless, an exceptionally high percentage—95% of those with a reservation for a Hummer—were turning those reservations into paid orders. Hopefully, the automaker can produce them more quickly.
