General Motors finally ceased the stop-sale order for the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV on Friday after nearly three months, offering lower base prices and eligibility for the $7,500 federal tax credits in the United States.
Stop-sale order
The American legacy automaker imposed the stop-sale order on the Chevy Blazer EV in late December 2023. It was very shocking news for the electric vehicle industry and Chevy fans, considering that the electric SUV has only started accepting orders in the past four months.
As EV-a2z reported, GM decided to halt the Chevy Blazer EV sales due to glaring issues in its software that affected a “limited” number of units. Nonetheless, both GM and Chevrolet assured potential customers that the issue was neither related to safety nor “Ultium or Google Built-in.”
GM explained that the 2024 Chevy Blazer EVs had issues with their screens and DC fast charging. For instance, the infotainment system repeatedly displayed numerous error messages, among others.
“We are aware that a limited number of Blazer EV owners have experienced several software quality issues. Customer satisfaction is our priority and as such, we will take a brief pause on new deliveries,”
Scott Bell, VP of global Chevy
More enticing pricing
Finally, GM has resumed the sales of the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV after four months of being out of the market. Chief Executive Mary Barra announced that the automaker has already “revamped the software development process, and more importantly, the validation process” of the new electric SUV.
GM has also launched significant price cuts to all 2024 Chevy Blazer EV variants upon the resumption of the sale. In addition, customers can also benefit from the full federal tax credits worth $7,500 under the Inflation Reduction Act in the US. Refer to the table below:
2024 Blazer EV trim | Old MSRP | New starting price | Difference | EPA Range | Starting price with $7,500 tax credit |
2LT AWD | $56,715 | $50,195 | -$6,520 | 279 | $42,695 |
RS AWD | $60,215 | $54,595 | -$5,620 | 279 | $47,095 |
RS RWD | $61,790 | $56,170 | -$5,620 | 320 (GM-est) | $48,670 |
A new variant in the pipeline
Excitingly, General Motors announced plans to launch an even more affordable trim for the Chevy Blazer EV, the LT FWD trim.
The new Chevy Blazer EV LT FWD trim will reportedly launch in late 2024 with base prices of just below $50,000.
As of now, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV’s starting price of just more than $50,000 puts it against the world’s top-selling vehicle, the Tesla Model Y. For context, the Tesla electric crossover delivers up to 260 miles range of driving range for $43,990 base price. Both models are eligible for the full tax credit, reducing their starting prices to $42,695 and $36,490, respectively.
