American legacy automaker General Motors, through its GM Energy unit, has officially introduced the new V2H (vehicle-to-home) charging technology to enable Ultium-based electric vehicles to power a household. Interested customers can now order the Ultium Home V2H Bundle for $7,300.
GM Energy now offers V2H bundle for Ultium EV owners
As indicated in the official press release, GM Energy developed the Ultium Home V2H Bundle for Ultium EV owners seeking to use their units for V2H functionality.
For a total of $7,299, it will not only allow owners to access electricity during a power outage. It can also offer a wide range of benefits, including transmitting energy to/from a household. With this innovative capability, Ultium EV owners can save money in the long term.
“As GM Energy’s ecosystem of connected products and services continues to expand, we’re excited to provide customers with options for greater energy management beyond the vehicle. Our initial Ultium Home offerings represent an opportunity for customers to take greater control over their personal energy independence and resiliency.”

V2H bundle inclusions
GM Energy’s Home V2H Bundle includes the following products:
- GM’s PowerShift Charger (max 19.2 kW AC charge speed) – Facilitates V2H charging with a compatible Ultium EV when utilized with Ultium Home V2H Enablement Kit
- Ultium Home V2H Enablement Kit (9.6 kW of discharge power) – Comes with an inverter, home hub, and dark start battery to ensure the household’s safe disconnection from the grid
It must be noted that customers can opt to only buy the charger for $1,699 or the V2H enablement kit for $5,600. Owners will also pay for the installation costs.
GM assured it would help customers by referring them to charger installation specialists, Qmerit. Apart from the installation, the company will also aid owners with managing the necessary permits for V2H bidirectional charging.
Compatible models with GM Energy V2H charger
As of now, the all-electric 2024 Chevrolet Silverado First Edition RST is the only compatible GM model with the new V2H charger. It must also be noted that it remains two months away from hitting the market.
GM boasts that the Silverado EV’s enormous 200 kWh battery pack can sufficiently power a household for up to 21 days. It also outlined that the EV can yield a maximum output of 10.2 kW.
The American legacy automaker pledged to expand the technology’s compatibility throughout its Ultium-based portfolio by 2026. The upcoming GMC Hummer EV is expected to come equipped with bidirectional charging tech. Therefore, it will highly likely become the next GM model to offer V2H capability.
GM will initially launch the V2H bundle in California, Florida, Michigan, New York, and Texas, with plans to gradually include more states. Meanwhile, the standalone bidirectional charger will be available nationwide.
Apart from the V2H bundle, GM also launched two other bundle offerings for Ultium Home customers: the Ultium Home Energy System and the Ultium Home Energy Storage Bundle. It also aims to offer new components like stationary energy storage and solar integration in late 2024. However, the company has yet to reveal its launch date and official pricing.
