In contrast, plug-in electric vehicle registrations in the country declined 35% year-on-year. The major drop is apparently due to the withdrawal of the electric vehicle incentives for business customers in August, InsideEVs reported.

The expiration of some EV incentives in Germany also prompted customers to make their purchases ahead of the deadline. In effect, battery electric registrations reported a significant YoY growth of 171% to nearly 32% of the overall market.

New registrations of EVs collapsed in September after funding stop in Germany:
the decline is particularly significant, compared to the previous month. Since 86,649 BEVs were registered in August 2023, the amount decreased by 63%, due to special effects.😁https://t.co/216LzsiXMF https://t.co/jDFm1bSYCe pic.twitter.com/m0w56EgUjQ

The significant EV sales decline in Germany demonstrates the major effect of incentives in encouraging customers to join the shift to e-mobility. That said, the government must continue to develop and launch policies that may aid buyers to afford the high costs of EV models.
