Brief background

In hindsight, Genesis introduced the GV60 as its first dedicated EV offering in 2021. After just three years, the luxury electric SUV model is already leading Genesis’ new Magma program.

Genesis unveiled the GV60 Magma concept in March 2024 at Genesis House New York, marketing it as “the brand’s expansion into the realm of high-performance vehicles.”

Genesis aims to make its Magma models “a high-end variant” for each EV in its portfolio.

About the GV60 Magma EV

Genesis upgraded the GV60 electric SUV’s battery and motor to improve performance. It also refined the model’s chassis, profile, and thermodynamics.

The Hyundai luxury brand designed the GV60 Magma with a lower and wider body than the original model. This layout enables the model to have a lower center of gravity to improve stability during sporty driving.

Genesis also equipped the GV60 Magma EV with a “Magma-exclusive sound system” for an “auditory experience” while driving.

The Genesis GV60 Magma will officially arrive in late 2025 with wider fender flares, a prominent rear wing, as well as larger grilles and vents for battery and powertrain cooling. In addition, the CUV could be motivated by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N’s 641 dual-motor, AWD powertrain. pic.twitter.com/uuOTtbpAuI

It is also worth noting that all Magma models will have a new human-machine interface (HMI). The interface will only display crucial data and functions to enable a more immersive driving experience. They will feature three key characteristics: ” Unspoken Dominance, Captivating Control, and Sharpened Immersion.

Timeline

Genesis announced plans to officially kick off the new GV60 Magma EV production in the third quarter of 2025.

It will initially hit the South Korean market in Q3 2025. The model’s European launch will follow in Q4 2024. It will likely reach the US dealerships in the first half of 2025, per Car and Driver’s projection.

Excitingly, Genesis noted that the GV60 Magma EV will “closely resemble the concept model.”

Genesis has yet to announce which model will be the next to get a Magma upgrade. However, it is worth noting that the G80 Magma concept debuted alongside the GV60 Magma concept.
