The 480 MW Saint-Nazaire Offshore Wind Farm in France is now fully up and running, as per Electrek.

It will also provide the equivalent of 700,000 people’s annual electricity demand.Background detailsIt is the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in France, developed and owned by Eolien Maritime France (EMF), Enbridge, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.In September, the 80 GE Haliade 150-6 MW offshore wind turbines were fully installed. It is located on the southwestern coast of France.In retrospect, the wind farm began to generate power, and its turbines were progressively connected to the grid at the beginning of June.The maintenance and operation of the wind farm will continue to employ about 100 workers in La Turballe. It is also worth mentioning that the offshore wind farm’s development phase employed about 2,300 workers.Road to renewablesThe remarkable wind farm project significantly contributes to France’s target of obtaining 32% of its renewable energy by 2030.

France’s wind farm objective

Saint-Nazaire Offshore Wind Farm is expected to supply enough electricity to meet 20% of the Loire-Atlantique department’s yearly power demand. It will also provide the equivalent of 700,000 people’s annual electricity demand.

Background details

It is the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in France, developed and owned by Eolien Maritime France (EMF), Enbridge, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.

In retrospect, the wind farm began to generate power, and its turbines were progressively connected to the grid at the beginning of June.

The maintenance and operation of the wind farm will continue to employ about 100 workers in La Turballe. It is also worth mentioning that the offshore wind farm’s development phase employed about 2,300 workers.

Road to renewables

Chairman and CEO of EDF Renewables Bruno Bensasson stated:

“This first wind farm is part of the EDF Group’s strategy to double its net capacity of global renewable energy to reach 60 GW in 2030. We are also participating in the National Low-Carbon Strategy of the government, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through energy conservation, nuclear power, and the acceleration of renewables.”

The remarkable wind farm project significantly contributes to France’s target of obtaining 32% of its renewable energy by 2030.
