The American multinational automaker Ford has recently unveiled the latest features and technical details for its brand-new E-Transit Custom commercial van named “smartphone on wheels” at the Hannover IAA Transportation event, according to Electrek.

Ford has swiftly risen to the top among manufacturers of commercial electric vehicles since introducing the E-Transit. With about 4,000 units sold in 2022, the E-Transit owned a market share of more than 90%, based on Ford’s August sales report. Additionally, Ford is the top commercial brand in Europe for its 7th year. According to the company, the new E-Transit Custom is an “icon transformed” for the current transportation era.

By “improving it in every single way” to meet the demands of both small and large businesses, Ford’s new E-Transit Custom is intended to boost company efficiency.

Furthermore, the new E-Transit Custom satisfies Ford’s need for a “no compromise” commercial electric van prepared for use. Ford regards this as “a smartphone on wheels,” equipped with features to maintain connectivity and boost productivity.

The new Ford E-Transit Custom’s advantages were discussed during the launch by Ted Cannis, CEO of Ford Pro, and Martin Sander, General Manager of Ford Europe. They focused on the characteristics of the E-Transit that make it perfect for companies aiming to improve their mobility operations while reducing emissions. According to Electrek, these features are the following:

·         Pro Power Onboard delivers 2.3 kW of power, enough for a mobile worksite without needing a separate generator.·         Ford Pro Charging can be scheduled anytime from anywhere to stay charged and ready to go.·         5G connectivity keeps owners connected while on the move.·         Mobile office features include a tilting steering wheel to place a laptop or to lay flat and use as a desk, and the electric work van also features a 13-inch touch screen.·         Delivery assist completes replicated tasks such as closing the windows and locking the cab doors to save time.

Notably, a maximum of 214 horsepower and 415 Nm (or approximately 306 lb-ft) of torque will be available, along with a WLTP range of 380 km (about 236 miles) for the E-Transit. In 2023, a modernized Ford Otosan factory in Turkey will start manufacturing. With its new features, Ford claims that customers who convert to the new electric van may save up to an hour daily.

With over-the-air software upgrades, the E-Transit Custom is expected to keep upgrading. Although Ford will initially also sell hybrid and gas-powered variants, it also asserts that the new electric van will “convince customers to switch to EVs.”
