American legacy automaker Ford sold a total of 165,565 vehicles from its Ford and Lincoln brands in the US in September, up 16% year-on-year.
More remarkably, the press release noted that its all-electric vehicle (BEV) model sales hit a near-record level with a 65% YoY growth last month. It accounted for approximately 4.9% of the company’s overall volume.

Ford’s BEV sales surged by an astounding 65% to 7,742 units in September, InsideEVs reported. As mentioned, it represented 4.9% of the company’s total vehicle sales in the same period.
Of that total, the popular Ford Mustang Mach-E enjoyed a YoY sales growth of 153% to 5,872 units. The F-150 Lightning sold 933 units, down 51%. Meanwhile, the Ford E-Transit’s sales hit 937 units last month. Refer to the table below:

Q3 2023 results
The remarkable results in September enabled Ford to hit record sales so far in the third quarter to 20,962 BEVs. It represented a nearly 15% increase from the same period last year.
It is also worth noting that Ford’s Q3 2023 sales beat General Motors’ record of 20,092 units. Nonetheless, both companies’ results are still lower than the industry forecasts.

YTD sales
This year to date, Ford’s BEV sales recorded a notable 13% increase to 46,671 units, representing 3.2% of the company’s overall volume.
Of that total, the Ford Mustang Mach-E sold 28,882 units, up 3% YoY. The Ford F-150 Lightning recorded a whopping 40% sales growth to 12,260 units. Meanwhile, the E-Transit’s sales reached 5,529 units. Below are the details:

In retrospect, Ford’s BEV sales increased more than twofold to 61,575 units in 2022. It accounted for 3.5% of the company’s overall volume, excluding its Lincoln brand.
As you can observe in these numbers, Ford really had a hard time increasing its all-electric vehicle volume.
Ford does not disclose its other plug-in hybrid models’ sales, such as the Escape PHEV and those under Lincoln.
Ford has been struggling to advance in the electric vehicle market in the US, considering the strong market presence of Tesla. Despite the recent sales and revenue declines in its EV unit, it continues to pursue growth through various strategies.
