Ford’s popular Mustang Mach-E electric SUV has just broken the Guinness World Record for electric vehicle range after achieving 569 miles (916.74 km) and 3,379 ft on a single charge.
Ford Mustang Mach-E sets new benchmark in EV range
The Ford Mustang Mach-E has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle on a single charge, according to tyre manufacturer Bridgestone, which owns the event sponsor – Webfleet.
Webfleet-sponsored drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke, backed by co-pilot Richard Parker, achieved the 569 miles (916.74 km) range record after more than 24 hours of driving.
“This record is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. It represents a significant milestone in the electrification of road transport and demonstrates the potential of electric vehicles when supported by innovative Bridgestone tyre design and advanced fleet management technology.”
Beverly Wise Webfleet, UKI regional director for Bridgestone
For context, the previous record holder was Zeekr’s autonomous division, which accomplished a 563.971-mile journey in Hangzhou, China, in September 2023.
The historic Ford Mustang Mach-E
The UK-based team utilized a Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium Extended Range (RWD with 18″ wheels) variant, which boasts a more efficient single-motor powertrain. It features a 91kWh battery pack, enabling a WLTP-rated range of 373 miles.
The electric SUV utilized competitive Bridgestone tires, helping it beat the previous record. The Mustang Mach-E reportedly averaged 6.25 miles per kWh during the journey, far beating the WLTP-rated 3.8 mpkWh for the said EV.
It is also worth noting that the EV managed to travel 21 miles even after the battery hit 0% capacity.
EVs take a major leap forward as Mach-E surpasses expectations
The record-breaking performance of the Ford Mustang Mach-E marks a major milestone showing the potential of all-electric vehicles, as emphasized by the Automobile Association (AA).
“The drivers, together with Ford Mustang Mach-E, Bridgestone and Webfleet, have all used their expertise to prove that EVs can go much further than people think. Such endeavours are important to show that electric vehicles can be a major part of the future transport mix.”
Edmund King OBE, AA president
Such achievement in the electric vehicle landscape can significantly encourage more people to join the shift to electric mobility, potentially alleviating their concerns, such as range anxiety.
With numerous electric automakers racing to develop more efficient EV batteries, more attempts to beat the current record will surely follow soon.
