Ford seems to be attempting to fight disinformation surrounding the sustainability of electric vehicles with its sustainable financing report on December 21. The American automaker’s research suggests that driving electric vehicles reduces CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, as reported by Electrek.
Findings
Ford claims in its latest report that electric vehicles on US grid-average electricity can cut carbon emissions by as much as 60% compared to an ICE vehicle counterpart.
Fuel Savings
For reference, the amount you can save with each Ford EV model is shown below:
As per Ford’s findings, owners of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck can save 8,777 gallons of gas worth over $27.2K. Notably, the automaker used the current gas costs and gas-powered F-150 as the basis of this finding.
On the other hand, owners of the E-Transit can save $19.2K or 6,189 gallons of gas. Lastly, owners of the Mustang Mach-E can save about $14.6K or 4,726 gallons of gas.
C02 Savings
Ford calculated the C02 savings in metric tons as follows:
- F-150 Lightning: 78
- Mustang Mach-E: 42
- E-Transit: 55
It is undeniable that electric vehicles are greener than their gas-powered counterparts. However, disinformation is still being spread by a large number of people. That said, initiatives like Ford’s are critical to discouraging skeptics and fighting fake news.
