American automaker Ford will reportedly relaunch its famous Capri nameplate for its second electric SUV based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.

Notably, the Explorer EV SUV was the first Ford electric model to use the said platform, which is set to land on the European markets in the following months.
The relaunch of the Ford Capri will follow the Explorer’s debut in Europe.
The Ford Capri EV SUV
Ford will reveal the new Capri in 2024. In hindsight, the first Ford Capri was a sports coupe with two doors way back 1968 to 1986 the European market.
Despite having similar names, they will sport distinctive designs as the new Capri will follow the path set by the Explorer. Nonetheless, it will still apparently have design cues from the iconic model.
According to NewsBytes, the EV will be equipped with the following features:
- swept-back LED headlights
- rear LEV taillamps
- roof-mounted spoiler
- a sculpted hood
- a raked windscreen
- ORVMs
- blacked-out B-pillars
- wheels with designer aerodynamic covers
Furthermore, the next-gen Capri model will have an additional two doors compared to the original version. It may use either 58kWh or 77kWh batteries from the VW ID series.
As for the specifications, it undoubtedly has similar capabilities to the Explorer. According to The Sun, it will have a range of up to 310 miles between charges. It can also accelerate from 0-60mph in just 6.4 seconds. All these for £40,000.
Inside, the new Capri will have a 15 inches infotainment display, wireless phone charging, and massaging seats.
