Japanese–Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to join the electric vehicle shift with the imminent launch of its first battery-electric model, the eVX.
Recently, the Maruti eVX was spotted on public roads in India while testing ahead of its official launch in 2025.
Maruti eVX test mule spotted
As you can see in the spy video, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki electric SUV’s dimensions seem identical to the Grand Vitara. The eVX is 4,300 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall. The automaker has yet to disclose the EV’s wheelbase size and ground clearance.
However, it must be noted that the Maruti eVX rides on a new all-electric platform. As a result, it offers a more generous cabin space than the hybrid electric SUV.
Maruti eVX’s electric skateboard platform strategically positions the wheels on the corners and batteries on the floorboard. Such a format enables the electric SUV to have an expanded space inside.
Considering the heavy camouflage of the spotted test mule, it is very challenging to spot many noteworthy features of the upcoming Maruti eVX.
However, the production version seems different from the model’s concept version. More plain headlamps replaced the V-shaped headlamps with LED projectors. Behind, it features a sleek tail lamp with an LED lightbar.
Upcoming Maruti eVX’s battery and range
As for the performance, the Maruti eVX is expected to feature a 60 kWh battery pack. It can reportedly enable a driving range of about 550 km.
The Japanese-Indian automaker may also launch another variant with a smaller battery pack. While it will reduce the electric SUV’s driving range, a smaller battery can reduce the overall price for customers.
Competing in India’s growing EV segment
Maruti plans to officially launch the eVX electric SUV in the Indian market as early as mid-2025 to compete in the growing local electric vehicle industry.
It is currently under development. It will undergo production in India but will also compete in other foreign markets through exports.
Japanese partner Toyota is also reportedly planning to roll out its own version of eVX.
The electric vehicle industry is rapidly expanding in India. By launching the eVX, Maruti Suzuki secures a foothold in this promising market. This move is also crucial for the automaker to adapt to the evolving automotive landscape and remain competitive.
